Publicly Convenient Architectures

About Recent Entries

Proposed rating system Aug. 12th, 2005 @ 07:45 pm

I'd like to suggest that we start rating reviewed lavs, perhaps on a scale of one to five flushes.

one flush - adequate - "flush in the pan"
two flushes - acceptable
three flushes - pleasant or quirky
four flushes - good facilities
five flushes - excellent facilities, design and decor - "flushed with success"

comments please? ;-)

The Hospital in Covent Garden is one of the city's trendier nightspots. As such, it's also a common place for day-time press conferences, as it's one of the few places in the city with screening rooms.

It's also one of the few places in the city with Kama Sutra themed toilets. The wallpaper in some of the gents cubicles contains scenes from the famous erotic work. It's a touch that raises the fairly average cubicles into the realm of the inspired - especially when the rest of the toilets are tiled in a rather putrid shade of green...

Here's a small sample of the wallpaper:

Cleaning up the smallest room... Aug. 11th, 2005 @ 02:17 pm

I'm revamping (and relaunching) this community.

Now going by the name of "Publicly Convenient Architectures", it's intended to be a group blog for sharing the architectural and design quirks of that much maligned feature, the public convenience.

I've given the site a redesign, and will be posting to it regularly - and of course, the more the merrier! I'm also looking at creating a related Flickr community to make it easier to post camera phone shots of interesting public convenience architecture.

Post-con dinner on 7th November was with feorag, autopope and others at Golden Moments, a good Indian restaurant in Ablewell Street, Walsall. Providing fine cuisine, pleasant surroundings and a colourful washroom experience.Collapse )
